Year 5 have just returned from a three day residential at Ufton Court, where they took part in a range of exciting activities, strengthened their teamwork skills and made wonderful memories together. With great weather throughout, they made the most of their time outdoors.
The adventure began with team-building challenges that encouraged cooperation and problem-solving. Exploring the woodland was a favourite for many, as they worked together to complete tasks and discover hidden spots. As the evening drew in, everyone gathered around the campfire to toast marshmallows and sing songs. One pupil summed it up perfectly: “Toasting marshmallows and singing camp songs was amazing!”
Each day brought new challenges and opportunities to learn. The challenge wall tested their determination, but they showed great resilience and teamwork. “The hardest was the challenge wall, but my favourite was making A-frame walking puppets—it really made us work as a team!” shared one pupil.
Building on their A-frame work, the children later created walking frames designed to carry water, testing their engineering and cooperation skills. Parachute games and the field is lava proved to be fun yet valuable ways to develop communication as a group. In the afternoon, they learned how to set fires and played woodland games, adding to their outdoor survival skills. “I loved building fires, climbing the wall, and the floor is lava challenge—it was so much fun!” said another pupil.
On the final day, excitement was high as pupils launched bottle rockets, experimenting with physics and celebrating their successes. “Geocaching in the woods was great—and I learned that you’re solid if you have friends to help,” one pupil reflected.
Even simple tasks turned into learning experiences. “The hardest thing was making my bed—but with the help of my friends, I did it. You can have the best time if you put your worries aside,” shared another student.
Ufton Court was an unforgettable experience, helping Year 5 grow in confidence, develop new skills and enjoy working together as a team. They returned home with a sense of achievement and plenty of stories to share!
