An extension programme is essential for fostering academic excellence and nurturing the unique talents of able and eager students. Such programmes provide challenging opportunities that stimulate intellectual curiosity and promote critical thinking skills, ensuring that these students are not only engaged, but also able to reach their full potential.
By offering tailored resources and mentorship, St Joseph’s creates an environment that encourages creativity and innovation, benefiting not just the individual students, but also enriching the entire school community.
An extension programme helps prepare more able and keen learners for future academic and professional challenges, equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
St Joseph’s does not offer fee remission scholarships; we prefer to provide an increase in care and provision. The St Joseph’s Student Extension Programme (STEP) offers our more able students in academics, sport and the arts, the opportunity to enrol onto a course of advanced learning that aims to realise their potential.
The STEP programme is open to students in Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12, which allows maximum focus when preparing for GCSE and A level exams. Students who commit to the STEP enjoy lectures from guest speakers, workshops with industry professionals and attend enriching educational visits. As an inclusive school, all students are welcome to apply to be a part of the STEP.
In addition to personal mentorship by subject specialists, students are offered a range of enriching weekly activities. Whilst our Co-Curriculum offers students a vast range of Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) to diversify their interests and experiences at school, our STEP provides a selection of Super-Curricular Activities (SCAs) that are specifically designed to extend students’ learning beyond the curriculum.
