This week, St Joseph’s College has been celebrating Reading Week, bringing students and staff together to share the joy of books!
One of the highlights was Fireside Reading, where our Sixth Formers read to the youngest members of our school in Pre-Reception, Reception, and Year 1. The little ones got snuggled up with giant teddies and beanbags, and they had a lovely time listening to stories!
Our Senior library was buzzing with activity throughout the week, hosting a range of exciting events to engage students. These included a World Book Day Kahoot quiz, a Book Character Treasure Hunt, a Create-a-Character Cube challenge, and a Micro-Fiction Competition. Students had great fun testing their book knowledge, getting creative, and showcasing their storytelling skills!
On Thursday, we marked World Book Day, with students and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters. We saw brilliant costumes, from Dog Man and Harry Potter to 101 Dalmatians! Our Prep children enjoyed a special assembly, where staff performed Julia Donaldson’s A Squash and a Squeeze—a fantastic and fun-filled performance!
To celebrate our 130th Anniversary, students in Key Stages 1, 2, and 3 received special bookmarks to document their reading achievements throughout the week. Meanwhile, Senior students shared their favourite books and why they love them, with choices ranging from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
It has been a fantastic week celebrating reading across the whole College community!
