Welcome to our Prep Speech and Drama (LAMDA) showcase. Each term our pupils in Prep have the opportunity to present their work to an audience of staff and parents. This term, our showcase is virtual.
Pupils taking Speech and Drama in Year 2 and 3 typically start with the introductory stages which focuses on speech, confidence and presenting to an audience. Later they can choose a focus, so you will see in our Year 4-6 pupils a selection of recitals and performances. As it is early in the year, some pupils have just started on new pieces, some have just taken an exam, so you will see the full range of stages from those still on script to those recently off script and still developing the work and those with a fully complete piece of performance. We do this to allow all the pupils an opportunity to perform and a chance to build confidence in standing up in front of an audience.
We are very proud of our Speech and Drama programme and our wonderful Prep pupils. We currently have approximately 160 pupils from Year 2 – Year 13 taking speech and drama lessons and many take them from Prep all the way through to the medal stages when they are in Sixth Form. We are this year introducing LAMDA lessons to Year 1 as well. If you are interested in lessons for your son/daughter or would simply like to learn more, please contact our performing arts administrator on performingartsadministrator@sjcr.org.uk or contact me (Head of Drama) at melissa.bicknell@sjcr.org.uk.
