Welcome to our online Prep Speech and Drama (LAMDA) Spring Showcase. Usually in each term we host a tea-time showcase, which we invite all the parents of our prep speech and drama students to attend. At these showcases pupils present a selection of recitals, speeches and performances to an audience of parents, teachers and pupils.
This year we are hosting our showcases online, we have over 45 prep pupils now taking LAMDA classes from Year One to Year Six. Given the challenges of this term, it has not been possible to do our presentation live, which combined with our growing numbers, also means it has not been possible to feature all of our prep pupils for this showcase. However, if your child is not presenting this time, they will have the opportunity to do so in the summer term, when we will host our final speech and drama showcase of the year.
We are very proud of our speech and drama programme and the wonderful prep children who participate in it. They continue to amaze us with their imagination, enthusiasm and ability. For this showcase, you will see a range of different styles of presentation – some pieces of speech have been acted out – as we might do in class when working on the pupils’ comprehension and retention skills; whilst some are presented more formally – as they would be in an exam, where the focus is entirely on the voice and face.
Once students have passed the introductory stages they can choose to pursue either the speech strand or the drama strand and you will see both represented today. We hope you enjoy the presentations by the very talented children of our Prep School!
A note on Speech and Drama Lessons at St Joseph’s:
We have over 150 students taking speech and drama lessons from Year 1 to Year 13; offering our students access to all of the different strands of the LAMDA curriculum, everything from Speaking in Public to Acting and Musical Theatre. Each term students are able to enter for exams in the school – as we are a registered private centre for LAMDA exams. Our results are consistently excellent and we are proud of the growth in popularity and participation in speech and drama over the last 4 years. If you are interested in learning more about our speech and drama programme, please contact either Mrs Gale, our performing arts administrator at: performingartsadministrator@sjcr.org.uk or myself at melissa.bicknell@sjcr.org.uk.
We hope you enjoy this evening’s programme.
