Maximilian, a Year 11 student here at St Joseph’s College, is a shining example of youth leadership and dedication. From advocating for sustainability to championing youth voices on critical issues, Maximilian’s journey is one of remarkable achievement and community impact.
A Leader in Public Service
Maximilian serves as a Member of Youth Parliament for Reading and is one of only 12 young people nationwide on the prestigious UK Parliament’s Youth Select Committee. This committee, supported by the House of Commons, addresses vital topics affecting young people. In recent months, Maximilian played a key role in discussions on social media and youth violence, engaging with leading experts and policymakers to shape solutions for safer digital spaces.
Championing Climate Action
As a representative of the Reading Youth Council, Maximilian participated in the Designing a Net Zero Reading initiative, contributing young perspectives to the city’s sustainability goals. On a global stage, he co-led the Youth Voices: Shaping the Future of Sustainability panel at a pre-COP29 conference in Azerbaijan, fostering international collaboration on renewable energy and youth engagement in climate action.
Musical Talent with a Cause
Beyond his political and environmental work, Maximilian is a dedicated musician who volunteers to teach music here at school. Recently, he joined the Chamber Choir and Brass Ensemble to perform at a charity event, where they raised £700 for Guide Dogs. His passion for music underscores his commitment to using his talents for the greater good.
A Visionary for the Future
Maximilian’s leadership extends to organising and participating in high-level discussions, such as the Special Pre-COP29 Conference, and working on impactful initiatives like the cost of living crisis inquiry. With a focus on making meaningful change, he’s not only representing his peers but also inspiring them to take action.
A Bright Future Ahead
Maximilian’s achievements reflect his dedication to advocacy, education, and volunteerism. His work reminds us all of the incredible potential of young people to shape a better future.
