St Joseph’s College had the privilege of hosting Dr Laurence Mann, a Senior Lecturer from the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes, as part of our Student Extension Programme (STEP). Dr Mann delivered an engaging afternoon lecture on the Oxbridge admissions process, providing invaluable insights to our students aspiring to apply to these prestigious universities.
Dr Mann also conducted a one-on-one tutorial with sixth former Madeline, one of our STEP students, on her independent research into Japan’s post-war identity. Madeline described the session as both incredibly useful and fascinating, gaining fresh perspectives on her topic from a leading expert in the field.
As part of his visit, Dr Mann also presented at our weekly Café Seminar Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), where he captivated students with a discussion on the use of onomatopoeia in Japanese and Korean pop music. His unique insights sparked lively conversations and deepened our students’ appreciation for East Asian cultures.
