The Cheadle Hulme Model United Nations last weekend was a remarkable achievement for St Joseph’s marking our most successful outing yet. Our teams representing Afghanistan and Australia won an unprecedented number of individual and team awards. Our students engaged in diverse debates across the weekend ranging from ‘the future of diplomatic relations in outer space’ through ‘self image and social media’ to ‘an international crisis involving the undersea cables connecting Australia to the rest of the world’. All pupils represented St Joseph’s with distinction, but a number of individuals secured prestigious awards. Cooper, Harry and Dennis achieved a Commended delegate Award, placing them in the top 5 students in their committees, whilst Isa, Noah and Maddie all secured a superb Highly Commended Delegate Award, which meant they were each runner-up in their respective 65 pupil strong committees. In addition, the 6 pupils representing Afghanistan combined to gain a sought-after Commended Delegation Prize, placing the team in the top 5 countries overall at the conference. Well done to all and a huge thank you to Mr Newsam and Miss Woods for supporting the students over the weekend.
