St Joseph’s has been providing hot meals to homeless people, refugees and others in food poverty at Reading Minster on a Tuesday evening for the last year. We have now expanded our provision to every Wednesday evening as well. We provide around 70 portions each Tuesday and Wednesday. All of the meals produced are made in our kitchen by our catering partners Thomas Franks from surplus products which are donated through the Surplus to Purpose initiative. These products, which might have short sell by dates, are misshapen or have damaged packaging, would otherwise be sent to landfill.
Over Easter we put our new Sixth Form Centre pizza oven to good use to provide a pop up pizza kitchen, which was very well received.
