The F1 in Schools UK Primary Nationals 2025 took place this week at the Magna Centre in Rotherham, bringing together the top 46 teams from across the country. Representing London West, our teams, Red Hot Rims and Lightning Lions, competed with enthusiasm, skill, and teamwork.
After a full day of racing, presentations and questioning from the judges, the UK Awards ceremony was hosted by Radzi, former Blue Peter presenter and now a snooker and tennis sports broadcaster. Lightning Lions presented him with a lion keyring—only later realising he had written the book Move Like a Lion! It was a fitting and well-received gift.
On the racing leaderboard, Red Hot Rims finished in 17th place, while Lightning Lions secured 30th. The highlight of the day came when Red Hot Rims won the Lightning Reaction Time Award with an impressive 0.035s reaction time. Their confidence and design choices also earned them a nomination for the Judges’ Choice Award, a prestigious category.
While this year’s competition was fierce, it’s worth noting that no team managed to beat the racing time set by our very own Speed Divas last year—meaning we still hold the title for the fastest car!
Beyond the competition, pupils developed key skills in communication, design, collaboration and marketing—essential for their future success.
Until next year, F1 in Schools! 🚀🏎️
