Enrichment Week 2024 was a spectacular success, filled with a myriad of activities that engaged, educated, and entertained our students. From hands-on learning to thrilling adventures, each day brought unique experiences that enriched the minds and spirits of our students across all year groups. All concluded with our annual House Day on Friday, complete with an ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition.
Our youngest students in Pre-Reception and Reception enjoyed an exciting trip to The Lookout Discovery Centre, where interactive exhibits and hands-on activities ignited their curiosity and imagination. Year 1 and 2 students took a scenic walk to Harris Gardens at Reading University, where they had a delightful picnic and explored secret paths and various plants. They also got creative in the kitchen, baking raisin biscuits and herby cheese muffins. Additionally, Year 1 and 2 students visited the Ashmolean Museum, where they learned about Egyptian mummies and modern art. From Pre-Reception to Year 2, students had the opportunity to interact with reptiles brought in by Zoolab, allowing them to hold or stroke these fascinating creatures.
Year 3 to 6 students had a diverse week filled with a mix of sports activities and a special visit from renowned author Iszi Lawrence, who captivated them with her children’s historical fiction and comedic talent. Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed the thrills of Chessington World of Adventures Resort, while Year 5 and 6 delved into the fascinating world of engineering at the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME). Students from Year 3 to 8 participated in an educational STEM workshop, complete with an astronaut suit, and also tried their hand at a Samba workshop.
Older students in Year 7 to 12 experienced a blend of cultural, historical, and outdoor adventures. Year 7 explored the historic Hampton Court Palace, while Year 8 enjoyed various water-based activities at Dinton Pastures Country Park. Year 9 embraced the great outdoors with their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition, learning essential survival skills. Year 10 spent a thrilling day at Thorpe Park, and Year 12 engaged in insightful discussions with our Alumni about university life and preparation, followed by a cultural day in London exploring the British Museum and watching The Phantom of the Opera.
We wrapped up our fantastic Enrichment Week with the eagerly awaited House Day. Our Pre-Reception to Year 2 students enjoyed Dance Workshops and a Bears’ afternoon, ending with a delicious Bears picnic.
Years 3-12 had a jam packed day with Whole College House Bingo, the Big House Quiz, Rounders, Lawn Games, and the thrilling “It’s a Knockout” at Reading Uni.
The week was not just about trips and activities but also about hands-on learning and creativity. From arts and crafts and Zoolab’s visit for the younger years to pressing paper sculptures and football-inspired language learning for Year 7 and 8, the variety ensured every student found something to ignite their passion and curiosity.
In summary, Enrichment Week was a fantastic journey filled with diverse activities, learning experiences, and unforgettable memories. We are proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement, and we look forward to more enriching experiences in the future!
