St Joseph’s College came together last week to celebrate Culture Day, with students from The Acorn Centre through to Sixth Form taking part. Students were invited to wear traditional cultural attire, proudly sharing their heritage with friends and staff across the College.
Lunch was a real highlight, offering a mix of dishes from around the world, reflecting the diverse backgrounds within the school community. It was great to see students not only showcasing their cultures through clothing and food but also engaging in conversations about their traditions and customs.
“Today, St. Joseph’s College came alive with vibrant colours, rich aromas, and meaningful conversations as we celebrated Culture Day,” said Rebecca, Head of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. “From east to west, students proudly wore their traditional clothing, each outfit telling a unique story of heritage and identity. Culture Day is more than just a celebration—it’s a chance for us to come together, learn from each other, and build connections across our different backgrounds.”
Reflecting on the event’s impact, she added, “This day gives us the opportunity to appreciate the richness of our differences and understand how diversity makes our community stronger. By replacing assumptions with curiosity and prejudice with knowledge, we continue to build a school where every voice is valued.”
With students representing 91 countries across six continents, Culture Day was a powerful reminder of the strength found in diversity and the importance of fostering an inclusive, respectful community. “We’re proud of how our students embraced the spirit of the day,” the EDI Committee noted. “It’s through these shared experiences that we grow in understanding, celebrate what makes us unique, and strengthen the bonds within our College community.”
