Sixth Form students and staff at St Joseph’s College are celebrating excellent A Level results this morning, with 45% of exam grades being awarded at either A* or A and 77% at A*-B. An impressive 87% of students secured their first choice of university. St Joseph’s College accepts students across a broad academic spectrum and there have been some wonderful individual successes of students achieving grades much higher than they anticipated, allowing them to access their preferred courses and institutions.
Students have secured places on competitive courses at some of the country’s leading universities including Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, UCL and Warwick. They will be studying a wide variety of courses ranging from Law, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Mechanical Engineering, Film & TV, Computer Animation & Visual Effects and Sport & Exercise Science.
We are also proud of our students for the other skills that they have learned at St Joseph’s, which will equip them for success at university and beyond. As well as studying for A Levels, they have spent their two years of Sixth Form broadening their horizons, learning life skills and preparing for the future – whether being part of the CAFOD Youth Leadership scheme, running their own company as part of the Young Enterprise programme, completing the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award or achieving their Extended Project Qualification.
Head of St Joseph’s College, Laura Stotesbury, expressed her heartfelt congratulations:
“I am delighted with the outstanding accomplishments of our Year 13 students in their A-Level results today, some of whom have faced significant personal challenges over the last two years. Many of our students have exceeded both our, and their, expectations, with 87% securing their first-choice university destination. This success is testament to their hard work, resilience, and determination. Congratulations – you have made us extremely proud, and we look forward to hearing about the bright futures that lie ahead as you embark on the next chapter of your academic and personal journeys.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our dedicated staff, whose unwavering support, enthusiasm, guidance, and expertise have been instrumental in helping our students attain such fantastic results. At St Joseph’s College we all work hard to ensure that we provide the best possible education for our all our pupils and the best value for money for our parents.”
Aakash
Aakash
Aakash is delighted with his results – three A*s in Maths, Economics and Music – and is off to Bath University to study Economics – a four-year course with one year spent on a placement. Aakash joined in Early Years at age 3 and has been here for 15 years! He says he has had ‘loads of opportunities’ and the stand outs have been playing lots of music, including playing saxophone alongside the London Mozart Players. He says the support he has been given over the last two years of Sixth Form, in particular, has been outstanding. Aakash also enjoyed playing rugby, football, cricket and tennis.
Georgia
Georgia
Georgia did better than she expected achieving A* in Drama, A in Maths and A in Economics and is off to the University of Warwick to take Acting & Theatre Studies. She is already part of the National Youth Theatre and would like to go into acting in the future. She joined in Year 7 from Polehampton Junior School and has appreciated St Joseph’s for the sense of community and strong friendships. During her time here Georgia was House Captain for Jennings House, played in a band in Year 7 & 8, played cricket and hockey and took part in Choir and Chamber Choir. Being in the production Sister Act inspired her to go for bigger roles and she was blown away to be cast as Sandy in Grease in Year 13.
Charlie
Charlie
Charlie is very pleased with his results and is off to Nottingham to study Maths, which he hopes will open doors to lots of different job opportunities. He joined in Year 7 and has most enjoyed the community spirit at St Joe’s and the level of support – including receiving a maths paper every day while on study leave. He was in the First team for football and rugby.

The Rome choir trip and singing in the Vatican was an amazing experience. He has also played in the football and rugby ‘under lights’ matches, participated in Young Enterprise and has had roles in all the Drama productions during his time here – in Twelfth Night he played Orsino. He says he can’t be more grateful to St Joe’s.

His co-curricular activities included badminton and STEM related competitions, such as the UK Mathematics Trust’s Maths Challenges.
Maia C
Maia C
Former Head Student, Maia C, is heading for the University of York to study Biomedical Sciences. She is very excited to have got into her first-choice university. She joined in Year 7 from St Martin’s, Caversham and admits she wasn’t the most academic on joining but says has benefited from the teaching at St Joe’s. She would like to go into the pharmaceutical industry and is hoping her third year placement will offer some ideas of where to specialise. She is grateful for the opportunities to thrive at the College and that she was stretched and challenged to have the confidence to do public speaking. She enjoyed being a STEM and Humanities scholar, Chair of the Chaplaincy & Charity Committee and participating in Lower Seniors Choir and Chamber Choir. Year 8 was her favourite year, particularly Enrichment Week and the trip to Amsterdam. Her takeaway from St Joe’s? ‘That I should believe in myself more and never give up!’
