Two casts, three days and four performances later, this year’s magnificent musical production, 9 to 5, has drawn to a close.
With over 85 pupils involved from Year 8 to 13, this year marked the largest ensemble we have ever had. Not only that, but this show turned out to be the most challenging and complex show; musically, theatrically and choreographically, to date. As ever, we were fortunate enough to be able to draw from an incredible pool of talent at St Joseph’s, whose supportive and generous approach allowed even our most inexperienced performers to grow in confidence and skill during the process.
As a school that values and makes room for the Arts, students develop so many skills through the process of working on a production: time management, discipline, focus, teamwork, resilience, confidence and, of course, creativity. They get the opportunity to collaborate with peers of all ages and get to experience the pleasure and reward of a show well received.
More about 9 to 5
Based on the 1980s movie, 9 to 5 is a hilarious satire that explores the trials of three female office workers after they are pushed to boiling point by their egotistical boss. With the music and lyrics of Dolly Parton, this show portrays an important message in the most upbeat, uplifting way.
Every actor, musician, and technical/stage crew worked extremely hard on this production and this was rewarded by their stunning individual and group performances. Their impressive characterisation and musical flair left their audiences, night after night, wanting more.
Well done all – what a huge success!
