Born and bred in Berkshire, I have worked at St Joseph’s for most of my teaching career having studied for a degree in Music (with English in my first year) at Reading University. I am an oboist, pianist and singer and was teaching oboe at the University and playing and singing professionally at the start of my career at St Joseph’s. Since I have been at the school, we have moved through many stages, particularly changing from a girls’ school to a co-ed College. However, the musical activities have always adapted to suit the changing circumstances and developing the extra-curricular provision has been my passion. We have many instrumental groups and choirs within the school of which I am proud and I also conduct an adult choral society outside school, The Reading Haydn Choir, which 6th form, parents and staff often join as well.
Probably the greatest achievement during my time at St Joseph’s is the recent construction of a brand new Music Department. It was incredibly exciting to help plan and watch grow a purpose built centre with modern, well equipped classrooms, practice rooms and a suite of fourteen new Yamaha pianos. The Music Centre has become the home of many exciting musical adventures recently.
