Obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in the Computational Physics specialism and the completion of the graduate diploma by the British Computer Society (BCS) took me down the career path of a Software Engineer, just after my undergraduate studies. At that point, I never imagined that I would become a physics teacher in a secondary school!
After migrating to England from Sri Lanka and starting a family, I went through a career change and retrained to be a secondary teacher and completed my PGCE at the University of Leicester. Since then, I have worked in a Catholic state school in Leicester for 6 years and moved to Reading in 2022 to take on the role at St. Joseph’s. St. Joseph’s has been a very welcoming place to my two children and I, and I feel privileged to be a part of such a vibrant and diverse community. Recently, I have successfully completed the National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching (NPQLT) and I thank God for the career change that brought me into such a fulfilling and rewarding job!
I am a firm supporter of women in STEM careers and am particularly interested in motivating girls to consider physics for A levels and be able to unlock the wide range of exciting careers available for women in STEM.
