The Prep Spring Concert was a wonderful showcase of all the pupils’ hard work in music lessons and from ensemble rehearsals over the recent term.
Recorder Group opened the evening with, “I Have a Dream” (Abba) and this was followed by a trio of performances by the Orchestra “Bus Stop Blues,” “Knights and Ladies” and “Jelly Mould Live” (Sarah Watts).
During the evening, the Prep String Group performed “Maysong” (German folksong) and Rigadoon (Purcell), the Guitar and Ukelele Group plucked and strummed “Son Montuno” (Graf/File), Prep Brass Group trumpeted a trio of tunes from Jan Utbolt/Gould and Flute Group charmed with “Yellow Bird” (trad.).
The audience heard a compelling performance of “Yellow”(Coldplay) from the Prep Rock Band and a drum solo from Elias which made the concert continue with a bang. During the evening, two other pupils also performed solos with Theo – flute “Allegretto” (James Hook) and Elizabeth – violin, performed “Petite Fantaisie” (Charles Dancia).
Year 5 entertained with “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (Grieg) and Year 6 performed a wonderful version of “Super Samba!” (arr. R Moore) with pupils playing and trouping around College Hall to the delight of the audience.
There really was such a vast array of musical talent on show throughout the concert including, last but not least, an impressive array of vocal performances. The Singing Trio performed “River Lullaby” (Stephen Schwartz) and College Hall was filled with the sounds of voices from the Prep choirs including the Lower Junior Choir, Upper Junior Choir and the Chamber Choir. The Combined Junior Choir closed the evening with a moving performance of “With a Little Help from My Friends” (The Beatles).
A big thanks to all the music teachers who have worked so hard to make this wonderful evening possible and an extra big thank you and well done to all the Year 6 stage management team who not only performed but also managed the logistics and helped to make the event run so smoothly and professionally.
