Our College mathematicians have been busy solving problems.
Students in Year 9, 10 and 11 have tackled some mathematical challenges recently and have been performing very well.
In the recent UKMT Intermediate Mathematical challenge achieved the following results:
Bronze = 24 students
Silver = 14 students
Gold = 4 students
Emily M (best in school), Zain Q, Sarah L and Sophie E achieved the gold awards and qualified for the “Pink Kangaroo” – the next round for Year 10 and 11 students
Seyon in Year 9 achieved a silver award as well as qualification in to the “Grey Kangaroo” stage of the competition, the next round for Year 9 students.
Last month, four mathematicians from Year 10 travelled to The Downs School to compete against the best Year 10 mathematicians from schools in the South East Region.
This is a competition with four rounds designed to stretch and challenge competitors.
The team from St Joseph’s comprising Sophie E, Romvlvs, James K and Joelle, did fantastically well, coming second in two rounds and 5th overall.
They showed knowledge, mathematical accuracy and great abstract problem solving skills over a gruelling three hours.
Well done to everyone!
