This week, we celebrated #BritishScienceWeek. Whilst British Science Week was celebrated last week across the country, for most of our pupils this was their first week back so we decided to delay it for a week.
Our Science Week would typically start with live demonstrations and interactive games as part of an assembly presented by some of our A Level Science students. As we were not able to hold the assembly in-person this year, over 40 pupils worked extremely hard to put together a Science Week Assembly video (see below). Despite not being live, they have certainly kept the spirit!
Throughout the rest of the week, our Science Department organised an exciting range of activities planned for pupils in both the Prep and Senior School.
A Space-themed day gave pupils the opportunity to virtually meet Space Store’s very own Rocket Scientist who gave a fascinating talk and shared impressive space facts and expertise along the way.
The Human Guinea Pig, Tom Warrender led pupils through a virtual live show on the Body and Mind themed day. Tom took our pupils on a journey around the human body, performing a series of amazing live medical procedures. He also spoke about some of the exciting careers in the NHS and medical sector that are accessible to all who have a passion for Science.
Day 3 called for the return of the Sixth Form House Science Quiz. Sixth Form teams, representing their House, were met by ‘Quizmaster Leese’ who tested their knowledge on all things STEM. There were strong performances by all, but Richardson maintained an early lead to finish out on top.
Our STEM department took on the challengers in a series special of SJCR does Taskmaster and Redbull Racing closed the week with an inspiring talk on F1 engineering.
Other activities throughout the week included maths puzzles, exploring the Physics behind music by making rubber guitars, coding sessions, electrical circuit exploration, optical illusion demonstrations and much more!
What a fantastic week full of exciting activities, with something for everyone to try. We wish every week could be Science Week!
