The efforts and hard work of Year 11 students at St Joseph’s College, Reading, have resulted in excellent GCSE outcomes again this year, with 64 percent achieving grades 9-7 and 100 percent gaining grades 9-4. Twenty-four percent of students achieved all ten of their GCSEs at grades 9 to 7. Three students succeeded in gaining grade 8 or above in all of their subjects.
Top performing departments include Food Technology with 86 percent gaining grade 7 and above; Music with 83 percent gaining grade 7 and above and Drama, Art and Design (Fine Art) and Latin achieving 80 percent at grade 7 or above.
Headmaster Andrew Colpus said: “I would like to congratulate our students who have worked so hard during a difficult year to achieve such excellent grades across a wide range of subjects. I am delighted that so many of them have chosen to stay at St Joseph’s to continue their studies in the Sixth Form. I look forward to seeing them flourish further, not just in their academic work, but also across their chosen co-curricular activities.
Today’s results follow an excellent set of A level results last week and my colleagues and I are immensely proud of the progress our students have made over this academic year, which has been like no other.”
Aidan performed exceptionally well gaining ten 9s and has chosen History, Geography, English Literature and Latin (AS Level) for Sixth Form.
Sachi, a grade 8 pianist who participates regularly in College concerts, achieved three 9s, four 8s and three 7s and is going on to study Music, Maths, Further Maths and Physics.
Annabelle, a talented performer who has h
ad a part in all the College’s drama productions since she joined in Year 7, gained all 9s and 8s. She is going on to study Drama, Geography, Business Studies and Latin (AS Level) in the Sixth Form.
Lorcan, a keen cellist, was awarded four 9s, four 8s and two 7s. He will study Biology, Chemistry and Spanish for A level.
Abigail, recent netball captain and co-ordinator
of the STEM Club for the Prep School, gained three 9s, four 8s and three 7s. She will study Music, Maths, Further Maths and Physics for A level.
