Last summer, pupils in Years 4 to 10 were invited to submit an entry for the annual Headmaster’s Scholarship Award, which helps to encourage scholarship, develop research skills and provide pupils with an academic challenge. Prizes of £100 for the best entry from a Prep pupil, Lower Senior pupil and Upper Senior pupil were on offer with runners-up receiving a price of £50.
This year, pupils were asked to choose one of the following words for their written project; Courage, Energy, Icon, Nation, One, Trust and were given the option of supporting this with an artefact such as a painting, 3-D model or piece of music.
Mr Colpus was very impressed by the quality and range of the projects, which were clearly the product of significant hard work and effort over the summer holiday.
Huge congratulations to this year’s winners:
Prep Winner: Henry in Year 5 for his interesting project on Icons which included an acrylic wood block painting of Moeen Ali.
Lower Senior Winner: Riddhima in Year 8 for her well-researched analysis on the concept of a Nation and what makes a strong nation.
Upper Senior Winner: Bryony in Year 10 for her project about the procedure and the history of plastic surgery. An imaginative take on the theme of One, seamlessly combining two different aspects (World War ‘One’ and ‘One’ year olds).
Congratulations, also, to this year’s runners-up:
Prep Runners-up: Luca (Year 5), Olivia (Year 5) and Maximilian (Year 6)
Lower Senior Runners-up: Rebecca (Year 8), Joshua (Year 8), Ursula (Year 8) and Stella (Year 8)
Upper Senior Runners-up: Leo (Year 10), Giles (Year 10), Georgia (Year 9) and Emily (Year 9)
The Headmaster’s Scholarship Award helps develop the attributes of Commitment, Collaboration, Confidence and Communication, which are important values at the College and Mr Colpus was extremely impressed with this year’s entries. Thank you to all who took the time to submit a project.
