Senior School preparation
Years 5 and 6 are key at St Joseph’s to ensure pupils are prepared both socially and academically for the rigours of Year 7 and the Senior School.
We encourage boys and girls to develop more independence, both in their studies and in extra-curricular and social activities, whilst still in the familiar environment of the Prep School. This enables them to successfully grow in confidence and gain experience that will support their transition into Year 7.
In Year 5 pupils experience a residential school trip, spending two days and one night reliving Tudor times at Ufton Court. Year 6 pupils spend five days at Calshot Activities Centre, taking part in exciting land and water based activities such as climbing, sailing and skiing.
Year 6 pupils also spend an increasing amount of time in the Senior School, in order to gain familiarity with the building, and also spend time with Year 7, in preparation for joining them in Lower Seniors the following year.
Year 5 Day
Year 5 Day is held in June each year. Pupils from local primary schools who are interested in joining us in Year 7 visit St Joseph’s to take part in lessons and activities that will give them a taste of the Senior School, and will help them to make friends with other children who may be joining the school.
They experience a number of subjects throughout the day, including science, geography, music, graphic design, drama, and sport.
