We have high academic standards for all pupils. Each individual is encouraged to reach his or her full potential, and this is achieved by providing engaging academic challenges with appropriate support where necessary.
Our curriculum is broad and progressive, with care taken to ensure the best fit for every pupil. The transition into Year 7 can be a big step, so we aim to make this as smooth as possible, yet still expecting pupils to achieve their best. Year 7 and Year 8 provide an important foundation for moving on to GCSEs, with a wide range of subjects offered and an emphasis on inspiring a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge.
New starters in Year 9 are quickly integrated into the school. The curriculum builds on the achievements of Years 7 and 8 and starts to prepare pupils for their GCSE options, with advice available from tutors and subject teachers throughout the year. The current GCSE options booklet can be downloaded here: GCSE options booklet
In Years 10 and 11, all pupils study the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science (core and additional or three separate subjects) and Religious Studies. Pupils can choose up to four additional subjects that reflect their interests and abilities. Each pupil is supported up to and throughout their GCSE examinations to enable them to perform to the best of their ability.
